Mrs. Hickam and Ms. Wilkin agree that the most important aspect of what we do at PCHS is to advocate for our students. While we work together on most projects, Ms. Wilkin is in charge of scholarships, and college/career/military planning and transitions. Mrs. Hickam is in charge of Response to Intervention programming, curricular issues/improvement, and is the assessment coordinator. Ms. Wilkin is the counselor for the classes of 2012 and 2014; and Mrs. Hickam is the counselor for the classes of 2013 and 2015. This means that students will have the same counselor to follow them through graduation.

This is Ms. Wilkin’s first year as a school counselor, and at PCHS. She has 10 years of counseling experience and is a Nationally Certified Counselor. Ms. Wilkin graduated from SIU-C in 2011 with her Master’s degree in Educational Psychology. Before returning to school to pursue a Master’s degree, Ms. Wilkin worked as an adolescent substance abuse counselor in both residential and outpatient settings. While in graduate school, she worked with students with learning disabilities. Ms. Wilkin grew up in Pinckneyvile and is still a member of the community. Ms. Wilkin has a son, and spends much of her free time at his swim meets.

Mrs. Hickam is in her second year at PCHS and in her seventh year as a school counselor. She earned her Master’s degree in Educational Psychology at SIU-C and is finishing the Educational Administration program at Western Governor’s University. Prior becoming a school counselor, Mrs. Hickam taught education and psychology classes at JALC, SCC, and worked in the human resources industry. She is from and still lives in the Carbondale area with her husband and two children. When she is not at school, she enjoy being outside; and especially loves being riding her Polaris RZR!
