Courses offered: Algebra II, Geometry, American History, Consumer Ed (Resource Management), Geography, Earth Science, Physical Science, Biology

PER HANDBOOK: Students will be allowed to earn up to three credits toward graduation requirements from outside sources.  Students may only receive one credit per subject area from outside credit sources towards graduation requirements.  (Example:  Only 1 credit for English may be obtained from outside sources, all other English credits must be obtained in house.)  Students must obtain pre-approval from the principal and work with the counselor to make appropriate arrangements.  If you have any questions, ask first.  Credit is given for classes taken off campus if used to make-up for courses failed.  This will not count toward GPA.  Make-up classes taken during the summer will not count toward GPA.  This will begin with the Class of 2012.

Youth Job Fair

Want to find a summer job to earn some cash and learn some valuable skills? Then come to the YOUTH JOB FAIR – May 23, 2012 at Carterville Community Center from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The fair will feature over 25 Employers within the Food Industry hiring in your area for the Summer Break including: Jackson, Perry, Williamson, Johnson, & Union Counties. Are managers will be there to talk to you, take applications and conduct interviews.

SIUC Fish U Summer Camp — Fish U is a fun filled four-day camp for 8th – 12th grade students and incoming Freshmen at SIU. The event will be held July 30 – August 2, 2012 at the Touch of Nature Environmental Center in Carbondale. This 3,100 acre facility is home of Little Grassy Lake, tons of outdoor learning space and indoor workshop facilities. Fish U will be led by Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students at Southern Illinois University, with each day featuring a different theme. Fish U cost $100 per camper. A non-refundable deposit of $25 is due upon registration. The remaining balance of $75 is due by July 30th. Positions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.   • 2012 SIUE Engineering Summer Camps We are offering two sessions this year: Session 1 runs from June 4-8, 2012 and Session 2 runs from June 11-15, 2012. This program introduces various engineering disciplines, computer science and construction management to current freshmen, sophomore and junior high school students through a set of activities that are fun, challenging, and thought-provoking.  You will have the opportunity to participate in various hands-on laboratory experiments, design contests and field trips.  The fee for the High School Outreach program is $350, and includes accommodations, food, transportation to and from field trips, as well as all necessary materials and supplies.  A limited number of scholarships are available for students who can demonstrate inability to pay the full cost of the program.   • SIUC Architecture Camp — This award-winning architecture camp introduces young people to the design of the built environment. Campers come from around the country and the world to build friendships and Learn about building and design. The High School Camp for grades 9 – 12 will be held July 22 -27, 2012. The cost is $510 for resident and $360 for commuter. Registration is first come, first serve. Register online at www.dce.siu.edu.
  • The University of Chicago offers a wide array of unique programs for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors through is Summer Session programs for high school students. During summer Session, students may take undergraduate courses for college credit while sitting alongside other high school and college students from around the globe.  For more information visit summer.uchicago.edu.
  • 29th Annual Challenge to Excellence Summer Program – This summer program is designed for academically talented students. Students are encouraged to have an IQ of at least 120 (if available) and achievement test scores at the 90th percentile or above.  Students currently in the eighth, ninth, and tenth grades will attend the program from June 24- 29, 2012.  The early bird cost is $395 for those staying on campus and $320 for those commuting.   • Murray State University CyberCave — The mission of CyberCave is to expose high school students to computer and networking technologies through hands-on activities.  The camps are offered June 3-8, June 17-22, and second year camp June 8-13. For an application and more information visit www.murraystate.edu/tsm/cybercave. There is a $100 fee for the came and scholarships are available to cover this fee.
  • NOTICE OF APPRENTICE OPPORTUNITY- Illinois Laborers’ & Contractors Joint Apprenticeship & Training Program: Applications are accepted ONLY at Laborer Local Union Halls on the 1st Tuesday of each month during designated hours.  For more information, please visit www.illaborers.org
  • Career Camp - Eastern Illinois University Career Services provides the opportunity for high school juniors and seniors (for the 2012-2013 academic year) to discover career options through on-line assessments, discussion and guided activities.  Students will explore their values, abilities and interests to find potential college majors, careers, and learn about job markets and projected growth through the coming years.  Ultimately, students will leave Career Camp with an action plan to move toward their career goals. The camp fee is $150 which covers meals, lodging and a Saturday night activity.  At this time no scholarships are available. Registration is open ( http://www.eiu.edu/careers/camp.php ) !
  • SIH Career Development course — available to anyone interested in gaining exposure to the healthcare field. This 6 week course will include: customer service training, resume writing and interviewing, career exploration and education, job shadowing assignments.  This 6 week program is offered 2 times per year only (March and September).
