Approved Service Definitions:

Students may record…

Direct community service activities (i.e. tutoring, building homes, visiting elderly in long-term care facilities)
Indirect service activities (i.e. fundraisers, community organizing, Relay for Life)
Community Organizing (i.e. voter registration drives, community gardens)
Community-Engaged Learning Course (direct service)
Projects sponsored by student clubs/organizations that provide a service to the local community
Service related mission trips
Service that directly impacts the PCHS (i.e. Orientation, Campus Improvement, Tours etc.)
Service that improves or assists local community organization’s function or performance

Students may not record…

Non-Profit Internship hours
Activities for which a student is paid wages or a stipend
Service completed during a semester in which the student was not enrolled in PCHS
Student club/organization activities that are required by the club/organization
Persuasive political or religious activities that does not support community improvement
(work associated with organizational fundraisers is acceptable)
Work for private businesses that would normally provide payment for the service

Rarely will service to a related individual apply.  Babysitting for friends or working in a family business does not fulfill the service requirement.  While good and important work, it is our intention to provide students with opportunities beyond normal family obligations.
