FCCLA, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, offers members the opportunity to expand their knowledge of being a leader and help develop potential skills for life. It may also help with planning, goal setting, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills. Some of their activities include the Ignite! Conference that is held September 29–30; Fall Leadership, which is also held in October but on the 30th; and in SIU Carbondale; along with Trunk or Treat; and National FCCLA Week, which is February 13–17. State conferences will be held in Springfield from April 13 to 17. A Summer Leadership Camp will be held in July from the 9th to the 11th, and a Special Olympics for the Community Service Project of 2022–2023 will be held. FCCLA is the only organization with career and family on its mind. 75 years ago, FCCLA was formerly known as the Future Homemakers of America. They participate in competitive events like Fashion Design, Early Childhood Education, Culinary Arts, Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, Interior Design, Public Speaking, International Experience, and so much more. You can find anything that interests you. They normally meet the first Wednesday of each month in the Foods Lab and Mrs. Williams’ Classroom. There is a $15 entry fee, but nine dollars goes to National FCCLA, five dollars goes to State FCCLA, and one dollar stays in their chapter.
